Neil Lawrenson
It is with great sadness that we announce the untimely death of Neil on February 12th aged 47 years.
Our thoughts and condolences are with Suzanne, Alice, Olivia and Edward.
Neil and his family have been active in York City Baths Club for many years. Neil was always ready to help and he became one of the most admired and respected coaches. Neil's enthusiasm spilled over to the swimmers he coached and many children will remember his smile and understanding whilst helping them improve.
At the funeral one of our coaches, Alan Sunderland, made a moving tribute to Neil and the text is included below;

"We are pleased to announce that DE Photo have been appointed as the Professional Sports Photographers for our Junior graded event. This event, by its very nature, is in the public arena and when entering for the event the participant and their parents acknowledges this fact, which may result in the recording and publication of his/her image. All DE Photo photographers and staff have been CRB checked and the company operates a strict Child Protection Policy and Code of Ethics which can be viewed on their website at www.dephoto.co.uk/cpp.html"

Save Swimming in York
Earlier this year the council
made a decision to use the funds that will be raised from selling the Barbican
site to improve swimming facilities across the city. The proposal was to spend
around £4 million on either refurbishing Edmund Wilson Pool or building a
replacement pool alongside the new sports centre at Oaklands.
The remainder of the Barbican money will be spent on a contribution to a
partnership to build a publicly available, competition standard pool (together
with a gym and outdoor sports facilities) at the University and the repair and
improvement of Yearsley Pool.
Take a step to save competitive swimming in York by completing the online consultation and help save the ONLY competitive swimming pool left in York.
