City Baths Clubs top age group swimmers travelled to Ponds Forge, Sheffield for
the first weekend of the North Eastern Counties Age Group Championships. The
best age group swimmers from the North East region were in attendance and the
York youngsters returned with two gold, five silver and two bronze. With ten
lanes being used for the finals York had a total of 23 top ten finishes.

year old Andrew Burns was the star performer for York as he won gold in the 200m
breaststroke. He also took silver in the 100m freestyle, 200m Individual Medley
and 100m butterfly. All Andrews swims were inside the National Age Group
Championships qualifying times. Anna Atkinson-Smith 10yrs was the other gold
medallist for York as she won the 200m breaststroke. She also took silver in the
100m butterfly and 200m IM, with bronze in the 100m freestyle. Anna also
finished 4th in the 400m freestyle and 200m backstroke. Sophie Glasby
12yrs improved on her NAQT as she took bronze in the 200m backstroke, she was
also 9th in the 400m freestyle. 11 year old James Wilby proved his
ability as a breaststroker as he stormed to a new NAQT taking eight seconds off
his personal best time and finishing 4th in the 200m breaststroke.
Other
York finalists were; Eddie Clarkson 10yrs 4th 200m IM and 7th
200m backstroke, Chris Burns 14yrs 7th 200m breaststroke and 10th
in the 200m IM, Lucie Calpin 10yrs 6th in the 200m breaststroke,
Claire Owen 10yrs 9th 100m freestyle and 10th 200m IM,
Duncan Rajan 13yrs 9th 100m butterfly, Jennifer Hodgson 11yrs 10th
200m breaststroke and Alex Fowler 13yrs 10th in the 200m
breaststroke.

swimmers performing personal best times were; Simon Duston, Michael Feetenby,
Alice Carty, Georgina Hart, Sophie Edmunds-Allen, David Recchia, Suzy Parrott,
Hannah Carty, Rachael Webster and Aaron Perry.
