The first gala of the new swimming year took place at Leeds International Pool where York City Baths Club swimmers were in fine form collecting 22 gold, 7 silver and 15 bronze from a total of 115 finalists. The ’Early Bird’ meet saw 11year old Anna Atkinson-Smith compete in 12 events and win an amazing 10 gold and 2 silver medals.  Her golds came in the 50m and 400m freestyle, 100m and 200m butterfly, 100m and 200m breaststroke, 100 and 200m backstroke, 200m and 400m individual medley  with silvers in the 100m and 200m freestyle. The race of the day from a York point of view was the girls 11yrs 50m freestyle where Anna went stroke for stroke with team mate Jennifer Hodgson to finish joint first and share the gold in a time of 32.84  seconds. Jennifer also picked up a silver in the 200m IM and bronze in the 100m breaststroke, 100m freestyle and 400m IM. 10yr old Claire Owen was also in fine form as she won 4 gold, 100m and 200m butterfly, 100m backstroke and 100m freestyle, silver in the 200m IM and bronze in the 50m freestyle and 100m breaststroke. Sophie Glasby 13yrs collected 2 gold in 100m and 200m backstroke, silver in the 100m butterfly and bronze in the 100m freestyle. James Wilby 11yrs took gold in both the 100m and 200m breaststroke. James Rogers 13yrs collected gold, silver and bronze in the 200m butterfly, 100m butterfly and 200m IM respectively. 10yr old Jordan Foster took gold in the 100m butterfly and bronze in the 50m freestyle. Simon Duston 11yrs swam with great determination to win the 50m freestyle from an outside lane. Bradley Swainston 14yrs picked up a silver in the 100m butterfly with bronze in both the 50m freestyle and 100m breaststroke.

Bronze medallists were; Hannah Garnett 100m butterfly, Kirsty Smith 200m backstroke, Michael Feetenby 100m backstroke, Suzy Parrott 100m freestyle and Edward Clarkson 100m  butterfly.

Other York finalists were; Aaron Perry, Tom Eaton, Oliver Wilby, Tom Bartram, David Recchia, Molly Eaton, Kristian Newby and Rachael Webster.

York swimmers posting personal best times were; Hannah Sturdy, Kayleigh Brown, Charlotte Dearlove, Laura Briggs and Angus Clark,
