North & North East Inter-Counties

ASA Masters Swimming Competition,

With The National Inter-Counties Competition 2005

Recently York Masters swimmers were invited to join the Yorkshire team to compete in two Inter-counties competitions, both held over the weekend, and with the swimming times achieved in the North & North East competition being used to as times in the National event. The North & North Eastern event was staged at The Hydro, Harrogate and the entrants were Cheshire, Cumbria, Lancashire, Northumberland & Durham, and Yorkshire.

York swimmers played a major contribution in helping Yorkshire to win the first event and to come second in the National Competition for the second year running. In this latter event 27 competitor teams representing 29 Counties took part.

The individual times of York swimmers are shown below, with the positions in the local event shown first, and the National event shown in parenthesis.

Sheila Brown had a very successful time, swimming in 5 events, and at age 71 she was giving 6 years to some in her age group.

In addition to the individual entries, there were 20 relay events in which York swimmers also played a significant role, and as can be seen, these success’s were  vital to the overall achievement of 2^nd place overall.
