Middlesbrough Open Meet

The competition at Middlesbrough Open Meet was again top class with some swimmers having just returned from competing at the Commonwealth Games.  There were many National age group and youth champions competing which resulted in some excellent performances. York swimmers returned with 6 gold, 7 silver, 4 bronze and a total of 48 top eight finishes. Andrew Burns 12yrs strengthened his position at the National Age Group Championships with another qualifying time in the 200m freestyle. Brother Chris Burns 15yrs put in an outstanding performance in the 100m breaststroke as he claimed his place at this years National Youth Championships.

Andrew collected a total of 3 gold, 2 silver and 4 bronze. His golds came in the 200m butterfly, 200m breaststroke and 200m Individual Medley. Silvers came in the 100m butterfly and the IM skins final with bronze in the 100m and 200m freestyle,  100m breaststroke and 200m backstroke. He also finished 4th in the 100m backstroke. Alice Lawrenson 16/over took gold in the 200m backstroke and silver in both the 100m backstroke and 200m breaststroke. She also finished 4th in the 100m breaststroke and 8th in the 100m freestyle. Anna Atkinson-Smith 11yrs had a busy weekend taking top eight finishes in 9 events. She took gold in the 200m breaststroke, silver in the 100m breaststroke and finished 4th 100m and 200m backstroke, 5th 100m butterfly and 200m freestyle, 6th 200m IM and  7th 100m and 400m freestyle. Hannah Petts 15yrs collected gold in the 100m breaststroke, 5th in the 100m butterfly and 7th place in the 200m freestyle and 200m IM. Tom Jackson 15yrs took silver in the 200m breaststroke and 5th place in the 200m butterfly. Sophie Glasby 13yrs had a silver in the 200m backstroke, 7th 400m freestyle and 8th 100m breaststroke. Jordan Foster 10yrs continues to improve as he  took bronze in the 200m IM, 5th 200m butterfly, 6th 200m freestyle and 8th 200m backstroke.

Top eight finishes also came from;  Chris Burns 4th 100m butterfly, Tom Bartram 4th 100m and 200m breaststroke, Alex Fowler 4th 200m breaststroke, Jennifer Hodgson 6th 100m breaststroke,  Rachel Eastaugh 6th 100m freestyle, Sophie Edmonds-Allen 6th 100m breaststroke, Nick Boaz 5th 100m breaststroke, Aaron Perry 8th 100m and 200m breaststroke and Michael Feetenby 8th 100m and 200m backstroke.

Personal best performances also came from; Alice Carty, Lucy Recchia, Xavier Edmonds-Allen, Simon Duston, Kate Garnett, Hannah Garnett, Laura Briggs, Kirsty Smith, Suzy Parrott,  Katie Mitchell,  Rachael Webster and Sebastian Dobson.
